IT guy vs. Smart Guy

So, I’ve been thinking. Like, a lot.

Meaning, what separates IT guys from the smart guys? What makes the first ones dream about the latest computer, latest gadget, latest car, latest “thing” to buy on credit or from savings?

And what makes the smart guys invest dollar by dollar, hour by hour, and making their possessions grow instead of spending it all on “new things”?

Why do I have to spend countless, countless hours in improving my IT skills, which will be obsolete in a few months once I stop, instead of actually working on something with a longer lasting value?

If I’ve been spending the same amount of time I’m spending on improving my computers *skillz*, in actually doing something more useful, like improving my selling skills…

For example, let’s say I’m selling vegetables. If I spend 10 years in improving my skills, strategies, and economical knowledge, I’ll probably be as rich as a king.

But with IT skills, it only keeps you on the surface. Yeah, you could become a manager, at the age of 30. And go to a mental hospital at the age of 45, or any other hospital, because your nerves and health will be destroyed, but what’s the point?

There is something out there, that is BEYOND just improving your generic-worker-skills. There IS a difference between the digger and the architect. And between the architect and the one paying him to do his job…

Who do I want to be?

Don’t know. Might be as well happy to live in a farm and taking care of it. Could be happy in the IT field, but I really don’t think the daily automated tasks I’m doing are the best I can give to this world. It’s not about getting rich, really. It’s about living a fulfilling life, one that helps people, one that helps yourself accomplish the purpose of your life.
I don’t know what more to say. Just.. One must know the purpose of his life. And chase it!
